Michigan Technological University, Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor. Applicants for the position are required to have a Ph.D. in MSE or a closely related field. The MSE Department has an experienced faculty (presently fourteen members) and an approximate enrollment of 120 undergraduates and graduate students with substantial opportunities for growth. The department features outstanding educational and research infrastructure, including state of the art electron-optic facilities, a broad range of materials-processing facilities, and a comprehensive inventory of materials-characterization capabilities, all housed within approximately 125,000 square feet of modern research laboratories. The educational and research programs are supported by highly qualified, dedicated technical staff that includes specialists formally trained in core disciplinary methods and technologies. Numerous opportunities exist to collaborate with colleagues conducting materials-related research in peer departments across campus. Successful candidates will be expected to have a demonstrated record of professional contributions and the potential to continue and sustain a high-quality, peer-recognized research program. Applicants with skills that demonstrate the ability to develop an effective teaching program with both undergraduate-level breadth and graduate-program depth within the MSE discipline are also desired.
