The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEEN) at the University of Utah invites applications from individuals with full-time experience and decision-making responsibilities in the construction industry for a 9-month (Aug. 16 – May 15), career-line faculty position in the area of Construction Engineering. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2025. This position is anticipated to be filled at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor (Lecturer).
Position Description – The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Construction Engineering in support of our BS and MS degrees, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, engage in curriculum discussions, collaborate with other faculty on professional development interests, and provide departmental, college and university service.
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a closely-related discipline.
- 3-4 years of experience in the construction industry before the date of hire.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience and interest in residential and non-residential vertical construction
- A Professional Engineering (PE) license or any other licensure related to construction.
- 8 years of decision-making experience
- Higher education teaching or construction-industry training experience

The CVEEN department is one of seven rapidly growing departments within the John and Marcia Price College of Engineering. In the past decade, the number of tenure-track faculty positions has grown by 50% and research expenditures have more than tripled, to over $81.5 million per year, placing our College in the top 30 engineering universities in the country for research volume. The CVEEN Department currently has 21 tenure track faculty members, 4 career-line faculty, plus we are actively searching for 5 positions including this vacancy. Our enrollment is 106 full-time graduate students, and 340 undergraduate students. The Department offers ABET accredited Bachelor degrees in both Civil and Construction Engineering and is launching an online Construction Engineering Masters program in 2025.
