The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture at McGill University invites applications for one full-time tenure-stream Assistant Professor position. Candidates will contribute to the teaching of core courses in our curriculum. It is therefore strongly preferred that candidates hold a professionally accredited degree in architecture (Master of Architecture degree preferred) and a Ph.D. degree in architecture or a related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Candidates without these credentials who demonstrate an outstanding record of academic and professional accomplishments may also be considered.
Architectural education at McGill University has a long and distinguished record in housing research and practice, critical historical studies and architectural theory, sustainability, spatial justice, and design and technology studies. Our professionally accredited B.Sc.(Arch.) and M.Arch. programs and research-based Ph.D. and new M.Sc,(Arch.) programs are energized by a close-knit and spirited community of students. The School is currently transforming its tenure-track faculty and launching large-scale collaborative research initiatives to confront the global challenges of climate change. The School is critically revising its structures and approaches to architectural education in response to passionate appeal from our community for racial justice.
We are seeking candidates who can benefit from this dynamic landscape and contribute to our current research and teaching priorities in any combination of the following areas:
- Foundational design education
- History and theory of architecture, land, ecology, and climate
- History of the built environment (pre-modern)
- Climate-responsive design
- Computational design and making

Job Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses based on the School’s needs in our B.Sc.(Arch.), M.Arch, M.Sc. (Arch.), and Ph.D. programs, recruit and advise doctoral students and undergraduate or graduate research assistants, and provide service to the department and university community. The ability to develop and sustain a level of performance activity and research commensurate with the University’s expectations for tenure is required. Faculty are expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program of international distinction.
