The Russ College of Engineering and Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning fall or spring semester 2024-2025. We seek scholars with a passion for student development and innovative research. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required by the start date of the appointment. Preference will be given to candidates whose research can contribute to the Center for Advanced Materials Processing, the Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment, or the Avionics Engineering Center, and whose teaching expertise can contribute to the thermal/fluid/energy systems and/or mechatronics areas of the curriculum.
Responsibilities include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering; developing an externally funded research program and publishing research results in reputable journals; advising and mentoring graduate students; assessing student outcomes in support of program accreditation; and providing service that supports the functioning of the university and relevant professional organizations.
The ideal candidate would have a successful record of college-level teaching experience; post-graduate experience in industry or a research lab; experience integrating machine learning and/or aspects of artificial intelligence in their research and teaching, experience in grant writing as a project director or principal investigator; strong communication skills; an ability to teach in both traditional and distance education modes; and research publications, accomplishments and plans that demonstrate an ability to attract external funding and produce results that impact their field.
