Langer's research interests are related to II-VI and III-V compound semiconductors and to devices for electronic and optoelectronic applications, such as photo-detectors, injection lasers, solar cells, and ultra-fast transistors. His present work encompasses the growth of multi-quantum-well structures of AlGaAs/Ga/As and the exploitation of the electric field dependence of the index of refraction of these structures for the design of novel devices such as planar optical waveguides and modulators waveguide switches.
