Dr. Donahue's research interests involve the development and use of an application of nuclear physics known as accelerator mass spectrometry. In this technique, a low-energy tandem particle accelerator is incorporated as one component of a mass spectrometer. Mass analyses are then performed on particles with kinetic energies of about 10 MeV, instead of the few keV used in conventional mass spectrometers.
