Dr. Vogel is an extension stormwater specialist. Before joining the faculty at OSU, he spent seven years as a research hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and five years as a research engineer at OSU. His current research projects include low impact development (LID) design and assessment for rainfall harvesting, bioretention cells, green roofs, pervious pavement, and wetlands, investigating avian-derived pathogens in surface waters, and developing guidance documents for integrated stormwater management and urban development. Vogel’s past research topics include modeling ground water/surface water interaction; occurrence, fate, and transport of chemical and microbial contaminants (i.e., nutrients, pesticides, viruses, bacteria, personal care products, pharmaceuticals, hormones, sediment, detergent metabolites, and flame retardants) in the different parts of the hydrologic cycle; stochastic modeling; and theoretical spatial geostatistics.
