Research interests revolve around the modeling, simulation and interpretation of complex wave phenomena in unconventional structures and materials, with emphasis on cellular and microstructured solids, phononic crystals and acoustic metamaterials. In parallel, wave mechanics are studied as the building block of novel techniques for dynamic material characterization and diagnostics tools for structural health monitoring, with the ultimate goal of establishing a new paradigm for superior damage detection in advanced structural systems. Recent efforts have been directed towards the investigation of multiphysics phenomena arising in piezoelectric metamaterials with energy trapping and energy harvesting capabilities
