Dr. Nayagam’s research interests are in the areas of combustion, fire safety, fluid physics, and heat transfer. He has been a co-investigator in the on-going FLEX and FLEX-2 droplet combustion experiments onboard the International Space Station for past several years. In these experiments the existence of “cool flame” supported quasi-steady burning of fuel droplets were discovered for the first time. Recently he has also been involved in modeling induced-hypothermia in collaboration with researchers at the Mayo Clinic.
