What We are Seeking:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in Computer Engineering with applications in Biomedical Engineering; however, exceptional candidates from all areas of electrical and computer engineering will be considered. We enthusiastically invite applications from a broad and diverse pool of researchers across the basic biomedical sciences and technologies for consideration with interest in the following areas: biomedical device design and therapeutic technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning, human health monitoring, medical imaging and signal processing, neuroscience, neuro-engineering, and biomedical controls and biorobotics. We are building academically and culturally diverse faculty and staff who teach and work in a supportive environment surrounded by people with a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). We seek exceptional teacher-scholars committed to developing or enhancing a robust research portfolio, delivering innovative, hands-on learning experiences, and supporting our DEI mission authentically. We are especially interested in faculty members who can build research partnerships with existing faculty within the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science (RSECS) and across campus (e.g., mechanical and materials engineering, biology, psychology).

Excellent opportunities exist for close collaboration with faculty in the Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging (KIHA). KIHA is an interdisciplinary research hub established in 2016 for basic science and clinical research in aging and now is functioning under the Ritchie School. KIHA hosts a dozen research groups, including faculty (with both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees) with expertise across the schools and colleges at DU. KIHA faculty conduct interdisciplinary research related to aging and age-related conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The candidate will have the opportunity to closely collaborate with KIHA faculty on projects promoting "healthy minds" and "healthy bodies," thereby furthering KIHA’s founding commitment to supporting healthy aging.

A start date of September 1, 2022 is anticipated for this hire.

Currently, health-related research conducted at DU/RSECS is themed around engineering solutions to major health problems. ECE faculty members work in neuro-engineering, socially assistive robotics related to autism and the elderly with depression and dementia, and cancer detection and sensing technologies for aging populations and patients with Parkinson’s disease. Mechanical and Materials Engineering faculty research is clustered around orthopedics, with expertise in computational modeling, in vivo data collection, and in vitro/cadaveric measurements related to joint replacement and cardiac devices.

Required:

Ph.D. in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field with the ability to teach core electrical and computer engineering courses
Evidence indicating the potential for high-quality, high-impact research
Evidence indicating the potential for high-quality teaching
Evidence indicating the potential for integration of DEI into teaching, research, and service
Commitment to high-quality professional service
Preferred:

Good communication skills and a teamwork mindset
Interest in working on multi-disciplinary problems that contribute to the public good
Post-doctoral experience
Previous teaching experience
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with culturally responsive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations
Associate Professors:

Required:

Ph.D. in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field with the ability to teach core electrical and computer engineering courses
Six years of increasing academic responsibility, but persons demonstrating unusually high academic promise may have gained equivalent experience in a shorter time
Evidence of high-quality, high-impact research
Evidence of excellence in teaching
Evidence of high-quality student mentoring
Evidence of integration of DEI into teaching, research, and service.
Evidence of integration of DEI into teaching, research, and service.

Preferred:

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for each rank varies. Assistant: $100,000-$109,000, Associate: $110,000-$119,000, Full Professor: $120,000-$180,000
