Position Description Summary
The Department of Electrical Engineering (ELE) at Northern Illinois University (NIU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Assistant Professor level beginning August 16, 2020. Offering an ABET accredited B.S. degree in electrical engineering, the department is well established and enjoys a solid reputation for graduating students, conducting research, and providing service to the community and profession. A research start-up package may be available.

Position Description:

The Assistant Professor will work in the area of Advanced Electromagnetics with specialization in design, fabrication, and characterization of RF and Microwave Devices and Systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Applicants are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses; and actively serve the department, college, university, and community. The ideal candidate shall be able to establish strong externally funded research program and work effectively with the existing research centers in NIU, such as Northern Illinois Center for Accelerator and Detector Development (NICADD), as well as develop strong research collaborations with external research centers such as Argonne and Fermi National Labs and leverage the existing cutting edge research facilities, which include a class 100 cleanroom in the Microelectronics Research and Development Laboratory (MRDL).

Required Qualifications
Successful applicants for the Advanced Electromagnetics area are to hold a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, or a closely related field, with related teaching interests and research experiences in Advanced Electromagnetics and with specialization in design, fabrication, and characterization of systems and devices pertaining to high power RF, terahertz, biomedical, EMI/EMC, or RFIC. Candidate should have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and hands-on laboratory-based instructions; dedication to continued professional development; and a demonstrated interest in working with students at undergraduate, and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) levels.
