In a joint appointment procedure, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the University of Stuttgart are filling a

W3 Professorship "Vehicle Concepts"

with an appointment to the University of Stuttgart at the Institute of Internal Combustion Engines and Automotive Engineering (Institut für Verbrennungsmotoren und Kraftfahrwesen; IVK) with a reduced teaching obligation (2 SWS) and a simultaneous leave of absence (Jülicher Modell) to the DLR in Stuttgart as

Director of the Institute of Vehicle Concepts

The institute researches, develops and evaluates new vehicle concepts and technologies against the background of future demands on the transport system. For road and rail vehicles, research is carried out on the conception, development and demonstration of new vehicle concepts and technical solutions. The focus is on the following:

  • Vehicle systems and technology assessment
  • Vehicle energy concepts
  • Alternative energy converters
  • Vehicle architectures and lightweight construction concepts
  • Material and process applications for the entire vehicle
  • Novel rail vehicles

Research in these areas is carried out in close and complementary cooperation with the research areas of the IVK and other specialist institutes of the University of Stuttgart.

The future position holder should be excellently qualified in the areas mentioned, preferably through high-ranking scientific publications or patents with international visibility, as well as sound management experience, preferably from industry, and strategic thinking. In addition, she/he should be able to master the interlinking of transport and energy issues and further develop the Institute’s international network.
