The College of Engineering at Michigan Technological University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Chair of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department to begin July 1, 2020. The Chair will lead the Electrical & Computer Engineering faculty in their mission of excellence in education, research, and service. We seek an individual with the vision and experience to elevate the department’s prominence in research within the fields of electrical and computer engineering, further our strong tradition of educational excellence, and grow our M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
The Chair is the chief administrative officer of the department and is responsible for the department’s administration, hiring, promotion and budget as well as being the leader in continuously improving the culture of inclusion and excellence in teaching and research. The Chair serves as the primary liaison between the department and the rest of the University and external constituents, and is expected to foster collaborations both internal and external to the university that advance the department’s mission.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 642 undergraduate students, 135 graduate students, 28 faculty, and 11 support staff. The department has active research programs in image and signal processing, remote sensing, robotics, communications and sensor networks, electric energy systems, and electrophysics, and is housed within 50,000 sq ft of contiguous space. Electrical & Computer Engineering is one of nine departments in the College of Engineering. The College has a total of 3691 undergraduate students and 738 graduate students, while the University has enrollments of 5764 undergraduates and 1273 graduates.
