Job Description:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Binghamton University, State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Enabled Mechanical and Materials Design. The position will begin in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026. Applicants are sought with a strong background and track record at the intersection of AI and mechanical engineering subfields including generative design, advanced materials, and solid mechanics.  Application areas include, but are not limited to, design of advanced materials and structures, AI-based materials discovery and design, and materials informatics. 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has 27 faculty members, with undergraduate and graduate enrollments of approximately 450 and 130 students, respectively. The Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Watson College are dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment. Requirements:

Candidates must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. The candidate will be expected to develop a research program capable of securing competitive external research funding. Candidates must also have a potential for quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in mechanical engineering.
