The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Biomedical Engineering.

Biomedical Engineering at the University of Calgary involves more than 300 faculty members with current annual research funding exceeding $75M. The university has made significant investments in Biomedical Engineering to date, including the allocation of six Tier 1 and nine Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs. A strong culture of collaboration and cross-disciplinary research excellence is enabled by significant research infrastructure located in multiple centers across campus. The primary research focus of the candidate should be related to the development of analytical tools and engineering approaches for data integration, data science and artificial intelligence for biomedical/health applications. Ability to teach in one of these areas is a requirement. Successful candidates will have a background in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, or closely related fields. The position offers widespread opportunities to perform collaborative, integrated studies spanning basic science to clinical science. Application areas that align with strengths at the University of Calgary may include child and maternal health; infection, inflammation and chronic diseases; brain and mental health; bone and joint health; regenerative medicine; cardiac science; cancer; public health; veterinary medicine, or others.

The position will be recruited through the Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education (CBRE) and be appointed in one of the departments in the Schulich School of Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and lead an externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and participate in professional and university service. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or equivalent and be eligible to apply for P.Eng status. Candidates will have demonstrated research excellence and the potential for impact in the field. Evidence of excellence in teaching should be demonstrated via a convincing statement of teaching philosophy and commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, student supervision, and mentorship. Candidates are expected to contribute to service within the university setting and the wider community.

In alignment with the University of Calgary’s Eyes High strategic vision, and in support of its strategic academic and research priorities of leadership, teaching and research integration, and creating a dynamic environment to promote research excellence, the successful applicant will actively contribute to research, teaching and curriculum development, and student/postdoc supervision. In time, it is expected that the successful applicant will grow into a leadership role within Biomedical Engineering and the institution.
