Transportation systems are currently experiencing a fundamental transformation in their structures and organization, triggered by new technologies (self-driving cars, ride-hailing services, robotics, AI) and the development of the shared economy. Nevertheless, people will travel together if they are offered opportunities that meet their objectives and do not violate their barriers and individuality. Focused on traveler needs, and enabled thanks to technology and data science, human-centric systems such as "Mobility as a Service" become conceptual references across all transportation modes, both in urban and interurban contexts. The integration of these new systems into transportation infrastructure, their competition with public transportation and the evolution of transportation systems present a large array of social, environmental, and technical challenges in a context of digital transformation.
EPFL’s School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) invites applications for a Faculty position at the tenure track level (Assistant Professor) in Human-Centric Emerging mobility. We are seeking out talented people who will be able to provide innovative solutions in this evolving field.
The successful candidate will have a strong research background in transportation systems as well as the potential to develop an innovative and internationally recognized research program leading to an outstanding record of scientific accomplishments. As a faculty member of the Civil Engineering Section, he/she will excel in undergraduate and graduate teaching and the supervision of doctoral students. With its main campus located in Lausanne and its developing antennae in neighbouring cantons in Switzerland, EPFL is a growing and well-funded institution fostering excellence and diversity.
