The Institute of Catastrophe Risk Management (ICRM) at NTU invites applications for a Research Fellow as a modeller in natural catastrophes exposure and loss. ICRM is a multi-disciplinary catastrophe risk management research institute which develops understandings and models of Asia’s risks related to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, and floods, and non-traditional risks such as infectious diseases and terrorism. This position at ICRM is for developing and maintaining the ICRM’s exposure and loss models, running of in-house risk models, exposure and loss data collection and outreach activities.
Key Responsibilities:

Produce output data and papers/reports relating to exposure and loss, cascading loss effects

Establish procedures on data quality assurance

Develop documentation.
Job Requirements:
-
PhD degree in Civil Engineering or in Engineering in a closely relevant field.

Familiar with data and models, and software used in exposure and loss modelling.

Competency in programming languages, such as Matlab, R, or Python, within a GIS environment

Able to publish and communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

Able to advance research for emerging risks such as relating to climate and urbanization
-
Domain knowledge via PhD work and/or with the insurance industry would be preferrable.

Self-motivated, pro-active, results-oriented professional with an ability to work with minimal supervision in dealing with data uncertainties

Good written and verbal communication skills

Strong presentation skills

Good in articulating data characteristics and research results

Able to work effectively as an individual and in a team.
