The Department of Construction Engineering at the American University in Cairo is seeking a highly qualified faculty member for a fixed-term appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank beginning Fall 2025 (as of July 1st, 2025). We invite applicants with expertise in transportation and roadway design, construction and pavement materials, and geotechnical and infrastructure engineering to apply.

The successful candidate will undertake academic duties that include teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in the above-mentioned areas. They will also be expected to engage in innovative research, attract research grants in their field, supervise graduate research projects, and serve on various departmental, school, and university committees.

Key research areas include (but are not limited to):
- Roadway, and materials innovation for pavement sustainable infrastructure
- Application of AI and computer vision in roadway and geotechnical engineering
- Advanced material production and construction methods for resilient and sustainable roads



Job Requirements:

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with a specialization in Transportation, Roadway, Pavement and Construction Materials, Infrastructure, or Geotechnical Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to advancing these fields through innovative research and to support the department's mission of promoting excellence in construction engineering.

The ideal candidate will have:
- A proven track record of teaching and research in transportation and roadway design, pavement and construction materials, and geotechnical engineering with North American Experience in Academia
- Experience managing and conducting funded research projects, with a demonstrated ability to secure significant research grants
- A strong publication record, including peer-reviewed Q1/Q2 journal articles and conference papers
- Practical professional experience in industry or consulting
- A history of mentoring and graduating PhD and MSc students
- Professional Engineer (PE) status in North America or an equivalent international accreditation is highly preferred

- Experience in founding or leading student chapters of professional societies
- Recognition through prestigious awards or scholarships
- Active membership in technical societies, participation in international funding panels, and editorial or peer-review roles for high-impact journals
