The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile, Alabama invites applications for a one-year-only non-tenure-track Instructor position in Chemical Engineering. The start date will be January 1, 2021 or as soon as the successful candidate can be in place. Candidates must have an earned Master’s or Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a related field and documented practical and/or research experience (e.g. experience in pilot plant or chemical manufacturing processes with emphasis on process instrumentation, analytic equipment operation and maintenance and troubleshooting (especially gas chromatographs, control system operation and installation, and process safety).
This is a one-year-only full-time 12-month position to organize, supervise and advance laboratory-based courses in the College of Engineering. The individual will ensure proper operation and modernization of laboratory-based courses including analytic equipment and process instrumentation. Modernization will occur throughout the academic year and especially during the summer term. The individual is expected to enrich the experiences of students by bringing industry best practices to USA. Some instruction in non-laboratory-based engineering courses, primarily design, may occur on a limited basis. The individual is not expected to conduct research, but they will be encouraged to do so when appropriate.

The Chemical Engineering Department is housed in a 155,000 s.f. state-of-the-art building opened in 2012. The department offers BSChE and MSChE degrees, with the BSChE program continuously accredited by ABET since 1983. The USA College of Engineering offers the Doctor of Philosophy in Systems Engineering and a Biomedical Engineering track within the Ph.D. in Basic Medical Sciences in conjunction with the USA College of Medicine.
