The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech invites applications for two Collegiate Faculty positions. These will be non-tenure track contract positions at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in engineering or a closely-related discipline by the beginning of their appointment. We are seeking highly-qualified candidates committed to a career in teaching and research. The successful candidates will be responsible for primarily teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in both regular classrooms and distance-learning settings, mentoring and advising students and developing a research program, although the primary mission of this position is teaching. We are seeking candidates who have a broad teaching interest in all mechanical engineering subareas, including all traditional areas of solid and fluid mechanics, materials, heat transfer, thermodynamics, vibrations, controls, design, technical electives, capstone senior design, and experimentation courses. Preference will be given to the candidates with the best credentials and potential, and not based on the subarea.
Virginia Tech is committed to diversity and seeks a broad spectrum of candidates including women, underrepresented minorities, and people with disabilities. Virginia Tech is a recipient of the National Science Foundation ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Award to increase the participation of women in academic science and engineering careers (www.advance.vt.edu).
These positions will be filled pending the availability of funds. Candidates should apply online at www.jobs.vt.edu to posting number 511001. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae including a list of published journal articles and pedagogical achievements, a one-page teaching statement with an indication of teaching preferences, a brief research statement as applicable, and the names of five references that the search committee may contact. To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by November 15, 2019, but applications will be considered until the position is filled.
General inquiries about the position should be addressed to the search committee chair, Prof. Clint Dancey (firstname.lastname@example.org). For assistance submitting the application please contact Ms. Diana Israel email@example.com (540) 231-6424.
