Job Description Summary: 

Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure-track) and Endowed Dr. James Russell Myers STEM Professorship in Mechanical Engineering Technology with an emphasis on Advanced Manufacturing and Industrial Systems to teach in area of engineering technology; to maintain an active research agenda; advise students; and provide service to the institution. The anticipated start date is mid-January 2025 or late August 2025. The successful candidate will primarily teach and develop undergraduate courses and laboratories in Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, and Industrial Automation Systems. The faculty member will also be responsible for conducting research in the relevant field. Additionally, the faculty member will contribute to maintaining ABET accreditation standards.

Job Description:

Miami University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor position and Endowed Dr. James Russell Myers STEM Professorship in Mechanical Engineering Technology with an emphasis on Advanced Manufacturing and Industrial Systems to teach in area of engineering technology; to maintain an active research agenda; advise students; and provide service to the institution. The anticipated start date is mid-January 2025 or late August 2025. The successful candidate will primarily teach and develop undergraduate courses and laboratories in Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, and Industrial Automation Systems. The Engineering Technology Department currently offers ABET/ETAC-accredited bachelor's completion degree programs with concentrations in Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, and Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, as well as associate degree programs in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Electrical & Computer Engineering Technology. Additionally, the department has recently launched a new bachelor’s completion degree in Robotics Engineering Technology. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach and develop undergraduate courses and laboratories in Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, and Industrial Automation Systems. Courses may include mechanical systems, fluid and thermal systems, industrial manufacturing and automation systems, and quality systems.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.
  • Serve as the program coordinator for the Mechanical Engineering Technology program.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with proficiency in teaching in English.
  • Conduct research that results in high-quality, peer-reviewed publications.
  • Secure external funding to support research.
  • Engage with and establish partnerships with industry.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline by date of appointment for appointment as Assistant Professor; established record of research/scholarship for appointment as Associate Professor.

Consideration may be given to applications with:

  • At least one year of industry experience and/or at least one year of teaching and developing undergraduate courses in Engineering Technology.
  • Evidence of securing external funding in relevant areas.
  • A Professional Engineering License.
  • Technologically current work experience in mechanical design, smart manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 systems.
