Job Description

The Department of Computer Science (CS) at Old Dominion University invites applicants for three annual 10-month Lecturer position, to begin July 25, 2025. The Lecturer will teach a broad range of undergraduate courses, from beginning programming courses in Java and Python to the advanced courses typical of a CS undergraduate program, and have a typical faculty service load.

Candidates must have an M.S. or the equivalent in Computer Science.

Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

Candidates must have the ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses, from beginning programming courses in Java and Python to the advanced courses typical of a CS undergraduate program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science with the accompanying ability or experience to teach graduate courses in Computer Science.
  • Ability to teach Data Science, Cybersecurity and/or Web Applications.
  • Experience in course development for in person instruction and synchronous and asynchronous distance learning environments.
  • Experience teaching and managing large course sections and courses.
  • Experience teaching and managing courses with formal laboratory components.

About the College

About the Department

ODU’s Department of Computer Science currently has 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 13 teaching faculty, and several adjunct faculty. Vibrant undergraduate and graduate programs with more than 800 BDCS majors, and 235 graduate students (70 Ph.D. and 165 M.S.) The Department supports and maintains a close relationship, including sharing faculty, with ODU’s School of Cybersecurity and School of Data Science.
