You are invited to apply for the position of Associate Director of Cloud Computing & Systems Engineering to work with talented colleagues to define, plan and lead the hybrid cloud (Azure, AWS, and GCP) enablement and shape the department’s culture, technology, and delivery transformation. The successful candidate is hands-on, committed to a customer service approach, has demonstrated project and vendor management skills. This role will provide senior-level expertise and build a holistic view of Stevens’ hybrid cloud strategy, processes, consumption to enable our community to take advantage of advanced technology capabilities in a sustainable manner. As the lead partner, you will work with teams across businesses, schools, App-Dev, End User, Networking, Security, and other technology partners to develop and implement computing strategy and delivery for efficient use of technology platforms.
Build and maintain relationships with other IT leaders and schools to develop a clear understanding of business needs; ensures cost-effective solutions are in place to meet those needs and respond with agility to changing business priorities.
Utilize effective negotiation skills across IT and the University to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions to achieve business goals.
Develop effective solutions using the public cloud. Design and Drive migration of the legacy application to serverless architecture in Azure.
Work with schools and operations teams to ensure coordination of IT changes without impacting business processes.
Introduce and develop proactive monitoring, disaster recovery, logging, and auditing to ensure maximum uptime.
Manage the people and processes related to the hybrid cloud, storage, servers, and systems, including performance evaluations, training, project planning, and hiring.
Mentor and develop the team of engineers and architects to ensure that their current skill set keeps pace with the changing computing landscape.
Advise on new and different cloud services and resources.
Execute data-supported decisions by delivering operational metrics and understanding operational data to identify trends and potential problems.
Develop efficiencies and lower total cost of ownership for technology processes and solutions.
Define short, mid, and long-term cloud production operations strategy and roadmap.
Support and build a research computing practice including chargeback models, scheduling, and consulting services.
Evaluate emerging high-performance computing technologies and work closely with vendors to design next-generation computing platforms.
Architect burst computing environments and data flow for large data sets on public and private cloud environments.
Seven or more years of experience in IT including three years of demonstrated success in cloud platform design, implementation, support, and operations. Minimum 3 years of progressive leadership responsibilities, preferably in higher education
Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred
Experience working with modern CI/CD tools, and automation tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, or Terraform is a plus
Good written and oral communication skills with experience presenting conceptual designs to executives and peers
Public Cloud industry certifications are desirable
