The Department of Engineering (ENG) at Aarhus University (AU) invites applications for a position as (full) professor to strengthen our research in Network Computing, Communications and Storage anchored in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The professor’s responsibility is to advance Network, Communications, Computing and Data Storage research in Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud and Edge Computing, network coding, and distributed data compression providing, among others, scientific leadership to fundamental research in these areas, technology transfer, and scientific foundation for industrial collaboration.

AU is in the process of implementing an ambitious strategic 5-year recruitment plan to increase its activities significantly within research and education in the engineering sciences with the vision of bringing AU into the global engineering elite. As part of this build-up, AU seeks exceptional innovative and visionary engineering researchers to strengthen and develop the section of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Candidates must have a PhD in electrical engineering or a closely related field. In the assessment of candidates, strong emphasis and consideration will be given to:

Excellence in research demonstrated by publications in relevant scientific journals and conferences;
Research impact, e.g., in terms of citations, patent applications, commercialization and collaboration with industrial partners;
Experience and successful in attracting funding for research projects with national and international research agencies and industry as well as demonstrated experience in research leadership;
Experience from collaboration with relevant industry partners;
Experience in entrepreneurship in research-driven ventures (e.g., university spin-off) in the research area;
Research network and established research collaboration with relevant academic and industrial partners;
Experience and quality of teaching, and experience in development of research-based educations;
Experience in MSc, PhD and post-doctoral training; and
Excellent communication skills.

For the position, it is crucial that candidates hold a deep understanding of real-world systems and applications within the domain of network and communication systems, distributed storage systems, cloud technologies, and Internet of Things. Research experience and leadership in novel approaches such as network coding and (generalized) data deduplication are key for a successful candidate seeking to lead the activities in our Department. More specifically, key research topics include network code designs; network coding theory and applications to communications and distributed storage; efficient random access on compressed data; and (generalized) deduplication for data storage and communication protocols. Key methodologies involve mathematical models, optimization (e.g., linear programming), algorithm design and analysis (e.g., complexity, performance, optimality), software implementations and performance measurements in real devices/systems.

The candidates are expected to be able to drive the build-up of internationally competitive research activities, to contribute to strengthening current research activities, and expanding industrial collaboration. The professor will act as head of a research group, participate in knowledge exchange with society and industry, raise external funding and participate in supervision of PhD students and post-doctoral training, be responsible for the educational guidance of assistant professors, and grow the research group/team and research lab.

The professor is expected to participate in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels in both electrical and computer engineering study programs, and to engage in the continued development of both existing and new courses. Undergraduate courses are primarily taught in Danish, whereas other courses are taught in English. For international candidates, AU offers Danish language courses with the purpose of being able to teach in Danish within the first 2 years. Some experience teaching courses in Danish is a plus. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
