Assistant Professor, Computer Science

Primary Purpose of Position

The Department of Computer Science at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor beginning in August 2020. Although the department's strengths are in cyber security and data science, applications from those with strengths in other areas in computer science are also welcome. The successful candidate will have a solid publication record, will be demonstrably prepared to establish an independent funded research program, and will fit the research and education needs of the department.

Primary responsibilities include advancement of teaching, learning, and curiosity in computer science through engaged teaching. They also include building, supporting, and sustaining a successful independent research program in computer science; this includes (but is not limited to) obtaining extramural research funding to support the research and students as well as steadily disseminating quality research results via scholar products. Finally, responsibilities also include engaging in service activities for the benefit of the department, college, university, and relevant technical community.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina A&T State University is a public land grant university that enrolls over 12,000 students. The College of Engineering, with over 1900 students, has 5 Doctoral programs, 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and EAC ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program Computer Science. The College's focus is on cultivating leaders who excel in academics, innovative thought, and research. The Computer Science Department has 13 full-time faculty members and offers BS, MS and PhD degrees. Current enrollment includes 256 BS, 40 MS, and 28 PhD students. Faculty conduct research in such areas as cyber security and identity, big data, AI and machine learning, cloud computing, software engineering, and multiagent systems. Research and education funding has come from the NSF, DoD, and DoE as well industry. The department leads the university's Center for Cyber Defense, designated a Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and Cyber Defense Research by the NSA and the DHS, and is part of the Consortium Enabling Cybersecurity Opportunities and Research funded by the Nuclear Security Administration. Through NSF Scholarship for Service grants, the department has graduated many students now in the government cyber security workforce. Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in computer science or closely related field by date of appointment

Preferred Years of Experience, Skills, Training, Education
A candidate should have a demonstrable commitment to, and success in, working in a diverse, inclusive, and multicultural community. Post-doctoral experience would be an advantage as would having attended an ABET accredited undergraduate institution.
