The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for two Presidential Frontier Faculty tenure-track assistant professor faculty positions beginning in Fall 2022. The Presidential Frontier Faculty program is a university-wide integrated interdisciplinary hiring campaign that is overseen by central university leadership, and encompasses hiring a large cohort of convergence research faculty to work on health, energy, sustainability and security. Particular emphasis is in the broad area of advanced energy storage technologies and their integration into modern and future energy systems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: (1) electrochemical energy storage; (2) hybrid thermal energy storage; (3) hydrogen production, storage and re-electrification; (4) mechanical energy storage systems; (5) energy storage analysis (including modeling, simulation and optimization); and (6) integration of energy storage into large-scale electrical and energy systems. The new hires are expected to be part of the ASPIRE Energy Institute.
Successful candidates must hold an earned doctorate in an appropriately related field by the time their appointment begins. They are expected to establish a dynamic and internationally recognized research program and to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Furthermore, they must have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding independent research and show promise for excellent teaching, mentoring, and entrepreneurship.
