Assistant Professors of Electrical & Computer Engineering (Tenure-Track)

The Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering (https://www.lsu.edu/eng/ece/) in the School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, seeks outstanding candidates for three tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2023 in the following areas. While the priority is in the areas described below, candidates with expertise in other closely related areas will also be considered.
- VLSI and semiconductor devices: Candidates are sought with a primary research interest and expertise in the broad area of VLSI and/or solid-state/optoelectronic devices. Preferred research topics include but are not limited to the following: VLSI for AI and machine-learning, AI-assisted design of VLSI, materials, fabrication, and characterization of advanced solid-state/optoelectronic devices, modeling and simulation of nano-transistors, etc. The new hire must be able to teach fundamental and advanced courses in VLSI or semiconductor devices.
- Accelerated Machine Learning and Cyber-Physical Systems: Candidates with a computer engineering background are sought for two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level. One of these positions emphasizes computational challenges of machine learning training and inference that include accelerators, edge devices, processor-in-memory approaches, and eta-scale parallel systems. The other position is broadly in Cyber-Physical systems with emphasis on areas that include secure embedded hardware for machine control, transport applications, sensor/actuator/display networks, and wearables.

Duties of the position include: Establishing a vigorous, externally funded research program, publishing in highly ranked journals and conference proceedings, supervising graduate students and undergraduate student advising, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, participation in University service, including committee activities, and maintaining professional standards and level of competence.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates who have satisfied all other doctoral requirements but dissertation submission and will complete their Ph.D. by time of employment will also be considered. The candidate must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, conducting research, and the ability to attract funded sponsorship.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Application review is set to begin on December 31, 2022, although it may begin sooner, and will continue until a candidate is selected.
