Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore invites applications on an endowed professorship for the position of Professor (Tenured) / Associate Professor (Tenured) in power systems engineering. Young and research intensive NTU Singapore is placed 19th globally, and continues to be the only Young university ranked in Top 20 since 2015 based on 19th QS World University Ranking published in Jun 2022.The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (NTU EEE) at NTU Singapore is one of the largest EEE schools in the world and ranked 9th worldwide in the field of Electrical & Electronic Engineering in the 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Established in 1981, the School of EEE is one of the founding Schools of the Nanyang Technological University. Built on a culture of excellence, the School is renowned for its high academic standards and research backed by 120 faculty members and 300 researchers from all over the world. To date, NTU EEE has an enrolment of 4,000 students of which about 1,000 are graduate students. In order to support advanced research, the School hosts 13 research centres and facilities which are well-equipped with sophisticated and state-of-the-art equipment. Besides the 13 centres, there are more than 50 laboratories, supporting both the teaching and research activities in the School.

We are seeking a candidate who will develop, lead and sustain research of an international standard as a technological leader in power systems engineering, and have an excellent record of distinguished academic and scholarly achievements along with a demonstrated commitment to the core traditions of excellence and innovation. As a tenured full Professor / Associate Professor, he/she is also expected to provide academic leadership and excellence in the area of power systems engineering for NTU’s School of EEE.

The selected candidate will be on an endowed professorship and is expected to work closely with NTU’s industry partners in developing capability aligned with the technology needs of the companies in the area of power engineering.


Requirements:
Successful candidates must have:

  • A relevant PhD from a reputable university
  • Evidence of a developing international reputation in power engineering, for example fellowships, awards, invited presentations at international conferences, journal editorships, etc.
  • Established track record of academic publications of international quality
  • Proven track record of securing funding as Co-I or lead investigator
  • Extensive research and teaching experience in power engineering
  • Successful track record of academic/research leadership and team building
  • Experience in cross-disciplinary research initiatives and collaboration
  • Well-developed understanding of the priorities and strategies of relevant funding bodies
  • Successful training and development of early career researchers and/or PhD students
  • Strong network and ties with renowned international entities and organisations

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead an innovative research programme of international quality
  • Publish high quality papers in reputable peer-reviewed journals
  • Secure competitive research grants
  • Give talks at international conferences, and supervise research personnel
  • Contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students undertaking research projects
  • Undertake administrative and/or leadership roles
  • Contribute to other service-related activities assigned by the School, College and University.

  • Ability and drive to develop project activities in one or more of the fields detailed above
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to enthuse students
  • Time/project/budget management skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to secure research grant funding and initiate new projects; lead a research team and develop an international research profile
  • Ability to work in collaboration with colleagues

  • Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly
  • Significant research leadership and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrable ability to provide strategic contribution at Subject or School level


Emoluments and General Terms and Conditions of Service:
Salary will be competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package.
