Immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with Prof. Raimondo Betti, Department of Civil Engineering & Engineering Mechanics and Principal Investigator, and Prof. Homayoon Beigi, Department of Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science. The successful candidate will conduct leading-edge research in the field of Structural Health Monitoring, with particular emphasis on the use of Machine Learning algorithms for rapid damage assessment.  Research topics could focus on: the definition and use of novel damage sensitive features, physics informed machine learning, transfer learning from different source domains to a target domain, unsupervised strategies for decision making, etc. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities: 

·       Conduct advanced research on the selected topic(s)  

·       Help with the preparation of research proposals

·       Help with the supervision of PhD students

 

PhD in engineering, computer science, statistics or related field; experience with signal processing, spectral analysis, time-series analysis, machine learning algorithms and the modeling and analysis of complex systems; strong publication record; proficiency with either MATLAB or Python and practical skill with both; and strong oral and written English communication skills.

This appointment is funded jointly by The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science and by the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics.  The initial appointment is for 12 months and is renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.  The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
