The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position to begin in Fall 2025. We are conducting a broad search for innovative scholars in hydraulics, hydrology, hydrometeorology, and water resources. All ranks will be considered. The faculty member would also hold a research center affiliation at IIHR - Hydroscience and Engineering.

We seek faculty who will: create an environment in which all members of the collegiate community are welcomed, supported, and able to thrive; provide a transformative and personalized educational experience that prepares our graduates to become engineers and something more; lead signature areas of research and economic development to drive breakthroughs that have societal impact; train graduate students to become outstanding technical leaders and innovative researchers; engage in mutually beneficial partnerships, boldly communicate our achievements, and build influence with state and federal decision makers; acquire and steward private investments that strengthen the college and amplify our service for the common good.

Our program has strengths in hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources in areas of hydrologic forecasting and prediction, hydrologic remote sensing, hydroinformatics, hydrometeorology and hydroclimatology, environmental water resources, computational fluid dynamics, atmospheric boundary layer process, and flow measurement and sediment transport. We welcome applicants who complement or enhance these strengths, including research that advances broadly understood hydrologic knowledge including flood prediction, disaster management and resilience, and sustainable water resource infrastructure, and those who can lead us in new directions.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is a vibrant, collegial, research-active department with 19 tenure-track faculty, 250 undergraduate students, and 70 graduate students. Over its 152-year history, CEE has earned a global reputation for research innovation and our faculty hold leadership positions in college-wide and university research units, particularly at IIHR - Hydroscience and Engineering, the Iowa Flood Center, and the Center for Hydrologic Development. These centers help fuel a highly interdisciplinary research enterprise where faculty have access to state-of-the-art research facilities, support staff, central analytical facilities, and the Argon high-performance computing system.

Our department is welcoming, supportive, encourages a robust exchange of ideas and develops the potential of our faculty, staff, and students. We recruit, mentor, and retain talented and diverse faculty and staff while providing opportunities to “Build a Career | Build a Life” at Iowa.

Preliminary inquiries for additional information are encouraged and should be directed to the search committee chair. Review of applications will begin on March 1, 2025, although applications will continue to be accepted until April 1, 2025.  References will be requested at a later date.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
