School Overview:

Located in the award-winning Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects-designed building on The Ohio State University’s Columbus Campus, the Knowlton School fosters a singular environment for innovative design research and critical inquiry within its three sections: architecture, landscape architecture, and city and regional planning. As part of the College of Engineering, the Knowlton School enjoys the benefits of a large research institution including collaborative relationships with departments in engineering, design, ecology, history, as well as the Wexner Center for the Arts. The school’s ongoing catalogue of special programs includes the Baumer Visiting Professorship, the LeFevre Emerging Practitioner Fellowship, a lecture series, gallery exhibitions, and the Source Books series. Architecture has approximately 420 students, 19 full-time and 15 auxiliary faculty members.

Position Overview:

The Knowlton School’s Landscape Architecture Section invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates working at the scale of urban design under the broad umbrella of race, justice, and the built environment, and at the intersection of landscape architecture, architecture, and planning. This hire is part of the multidisciplinary cluster focused on race and the built environment and will be conducted in tandem with the History of Art Department.  Teaching responsibilities for this position include urban design studios, research seminars, and a new, interdisciplinary General Education course in the category of “Citizenship for a Just and Sustainable World.”

The Knowlton School is a tenure-initiating unit within the College of Engineering housing architecture, landscape architecture, and city and regional planning. With 45 faculty, 750 students, and 15 staff, the Knowlton School forms a distinct community fostering inquiry and exchanges across sections, the college, and the university. Cross-disciplinary teaching and research are highly valued, and innovation encouraged.


Applications must demonstrate a record of engagement at the intersection of landscape architecture, architecture and/or planning and/or design practice foregrounding issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the city, as well as public service related to this expertise. Applicants must hold a terminal degree in their primary discipline (Masters or PhD). Terminal degree must be completed by the time of appointment. Experience in teaching, interdisciplinary and collaborative engagement is desirable but not required.
