Revision: Scope of search was expanded to also include expertise in communications, digital signal processing, and machine vision (October 6, 2020).
Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). (Other ranks may be considered depending on the candidate’s level of experience.) The School seeks candidates with expertise in the broad area of Software Engineering with applications in power systems, micro-grids, robotics, mechatronics, computer engineering, software-defined radios, communications, signal processing, machine vision, smart systems, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, avionics, etc. In all cases the School is specifically interested in candidates whose research is demonstrably focused on software solutions in the context of hardware applications and electrical systems.
Applicants should clearly identify in their cover letter and research statement their expertise and experience in Software Engineering and the specific hardware applications that have been successfully addressed. The School intends to hire three highly qualified candidates (contingent on available funds). For highly exceptional candidates, other areas will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent in electrical engineering or computer engineering, or closely related field. Successful candidates will be expected to teach software engineering courses, develop an externally funded, internationally recognized research program, to excel in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, to work closely with industrial partners in the Oklahoma defense and aerospace communities, and to serve the School and their profession. Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work individually and in teams are required. Engineering experience within industry or government laboratories is highly desired, but not required. Candidates who can utilize, share, leverage, and develop existing ECE research laboratories are especially encouraged to apply.
Electrical and Computer Engineering: The School currently has 20 full-time faculty members, approximately 410 undergraduate students, 50 graduate students, and state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories. The School operates the VLSI Computer Architecture Research Laboratory, Mixed-Signal VLSI Laboratory, the Ultrafast THz Optoelectronics Laboratory, and the Robust Electromagnetic Field Testing and Simulation Laboratory. Numerous opportunities exist for collaboration with OSU’s internationally recognized Unmanned Systems Research Institute and the New Product Development Center.
The School offers the BS, MS, MEng, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and the BS degree in Computer Engineering. The School’s baccalaureate programs are ABET accredited. Research thrusts within the School include power and energy, computer engineering, robotics, digital and analog electronics, VLSI, control systems, communications, electromagnetics, signal processing, and THz/optical systems. A new option in Software Engineering will be developed in the future contingent on the availability of funds and resources.
The School has developed a highly professional and collegial culture of dedicated professors who are teachers of excellence and researchers with distinction. The School places high emphasis on a collaborative, team-based approach to solve pressing problems in science, engineering and technology. In a couple of years, the School will be located in a fully renovated, highly modern office complex within the historical building of Engineering South.
