The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Alabama invites applications for a non-tenure-track, renewable contract faculty position. Exceptional applicants are sought that have a passion for teaching and curriculum development across the field of mechanical engineering. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is the largest within the College of Engineering with approximately 1300 undergraduate students served by a diverse group tenured, tenure-track and renewable contract faculty. Primary duties of the successful candidate will include teaching in core lecture classes, unit operations laboratory and/or senior design courses, as well as appropriate service roles in the department. Candidates will be joining a department of dedicated professors (che.eng.ua.edu/people). This is a one year non-tenure track position subject to annual renewal.

The College of Engineering has one of the largest overall footprints of any college at UA, currently occupying all or significant portions of 15 different facilities across campus. The mechanical engineering department is currently housed in the South Engineering Research Center, which is home to several state-of-the-art research and educational laboratories and classrooms. With UA's hundreds of award-winning faculty and staff members, its outstanding and growing student body, its tremendous array of state-of-the-art facilities, its diverse offerings of nationally accredited degree programs, and the strong support of its local, state, and national partners, the UA College of Engineering has positioned itself for continued success and rapid advancement as a leader in engineering science, education, and practice. The College is looking for new faculty who want to build or continue their career in a dynamic organization with unlimited potential.

Applicants must have an earned master's (M.S.) or doctorate (Ph.D.) in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a high performance level in the classroom or laboratory, actively engage students, and take a leadership role in curricular matters. Application packages must be submitted electronically and should consist of a cover letter, CV, statement of teaching interests and experience, and contact information for at least three references. Applications will be accepted and reviewed continuously until the position is filled with a possible start date as early as January 2025. For more information and to apply, visit careers.ua.edu/faculty. Questions about the position can be directed to the interim department head of mechanical engineering, Dr. Kalyan Kumar Srinivasan (ksrinivasan@eng.ua.edu).
