Activity recognition is a complex task, however, with the rapid advancements in distributed sensor network technologies, there can be many applications within this field including e-health to behavioural analysis in Psychology and Human-Computer Interaction. In our previous work, we have shown that it is possible to achieve good accuracy in recognising activities of an elderly person living alone in a house with many binary scalar sensors. In this project, we are planning to continue to work in line with our previous research with the main aim of investigating different techniques to automatically recognise activities and creating a framework to automate the process. For this purpose, the following four objectives are identified within the scope of this project:
(1) Review the literature and investigate existing datasets and their properties and features;
(2) Explore different techniques for data preparation for automated processing;
(3) Investigate algorithms such as Machine Learning and Deep Learning as well as other techniques for automated recognition of activities and finally,
(4) Explore applications of activity recognition such as anomaly detection or activity prediction. This project will have contributions in sensor development research, in particular how sensor data can be used in behaviour analysis and data science.
We are looking for full time applicants for this post-doc project to be employed in Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus (https://ncc.metu.edu.tr/).
The successful candidate will teach for six hours within Computer Engineering Department on top of contributing the above mentioned project.
