The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University has two immediate Graduate students’ positions (one PhD position and one Masters’ position), which are anticipated to start in January or August 2020. Successful candidates will be hired as Graduate Assistants (GAs) under the supervision of Dr. Hany Hassan to work on research focusing on (1) Connected vehicles, (2) Active traffic management systems, (3) Traffic operation and simulation (4) Transportation Safety, (5) Intelligent Transportation Systems, (6) Human factors and driving behaviors .
A successful candidate should have a strong background in at least one of the following areas: statistical modeling, machine learning, big data analytics & visualization, transportation engineering. The candidate should also feel comfortable implementing algorithms and processing data in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, C++, R, MATLAB). Experience with statistical software (SAS, SPSS), data mining and machine learning techniques is an asset. An earned undergraduate degree in civil engineering/ computer science with GPA > 3.5 (out of 4) is preferred. All students will be asked to submit GRE scores, while international students must also submit TOEFL / IELTS scores.
