Assistant/Associate Professor - Construction Engineering and Management

Description

The Glenn Department of Civil Engineering invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Construction Engineering Management. We are seeking candidates with an exemplary record of scholarly work and a research vision that promotes collaboration within the Department and School, between regional/national industry partners, and a broad set of stakeholders, including federal and state agencies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to addressing societal grand challenges. Candidates with exceptional ability to conduct innovative research in, but not limited to, smart and sustainable buildings, emerging technologies in digital modeling and construction automation, construction safety, alternate contracting methods, industrialized construction, construction supply chain, de-carbonization of the construction industry, and human-centered solutions for resilient critical infrastructure are encouraged to apply. While the position is expected to be filled at the level of Assistant Professor rank, exceptional candidates at Associate Professor rank will also be considered.

Clemson University recently created the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (SCEEES) that houses the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences. SCEEES is home to nearly 60 faculty, 200 graduate students, and 575 undergraduates. The School has an established and growing expertise in the following four thematic areas: Smart City Service (managing risk and security); Resilient Communities (natural and technological disasters mitigation); Engineering the Surface and Subsurface (dry land, clean water, and water security); and Engineering the Earth’s Ecosphere (air quality, greenhouse gas removal, managing solid and nuclear wastes). Further, the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering has recently completed a 6-year grant from the National Science Foundation to revolution our engineering department.  This grant has resulted in deeper connections between students, faculty and industry, as well as engagement with the community on impactful projects, and created significant improvements in student professional development outcomes.

Clemson University is South Carolina’s public land-grant University. As a Carnegie R1 Institution, the University has excellent research resources, including the Palmetto Cluster, a top 500 global high-performance computing cluster. The College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences encourages impactful interdisciplinary work, and this culture of collaboration includes joint appointments in other departments and schools on campus as well as extensive work with several industry partners. The University, College, and Department are committed to building an inclusive community of scholars dedicated to working and teaching in a multicultural environment. Clemson University recognizes that many candidates for faculty positions have dual career needs. The Dual Career Program in the Office of the Provost provides support when considering employment opportunities with the University and in the surrounding community.

Qualifications
Competitive candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline and be able to teach core civil engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate level to achieve student outcomes. Development of complementary graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise is also encouraged. The candidate will advise both M.S. and Ph.D. students and develop a high-quality and productive sponsored research program. Opportunities exist for collaboration within SCEEES, as well as with other colleagues in the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences, and other Colleges and Centers at Clemson. Competitive candidates will have a significant record of academic accomplishments, a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, a commitment to inclusive excellence, and a willingness to expand disciplinary boundaries to address complex technical and societal grand challenges.
