Villanova University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track position in transportation engineering starting in the fall 2020 semester. The Department is looking for a faculty member with expertise in the area of smart transportation systems. Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to: traffic safety, smart mobility, human factors, autonomous and connected systems, resilient infrastructure design, and risk and reliability of engineered systems.

The candidate will be expected to develop a sustainable research program, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, and engage in impactful service.

The CEE Department is recognized as a leader in providing a distinctive broad-based civil engineering education, grounded in Augustinian Catholic values and a commitment to service. The department strives to be widely acknowledged as a premier program known for our outstanding pedagogy and curricula, international opportunities, and personal attention to students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department has 19 full-time faculty members (13 tenure-track faculty and 6 teaching faculty), approximately 220 undergraduate (freshman through senior) and 125 graduate students, and offers B.S. (Civil Engineering), M.S. (both Civil Engineering and Water Resources/Environmental Engineering), and Ph.D. (Engineering) degrees. The university is located 12 miles west of Philadelphia along the historic Main Line. Department faculty annually produce approximately $2M in research expenditures and collectively publish about 20 papers in refereed journals and another 20 in refereed conference proceedings and other venues each year. Scholarship is performed in a highly collaborative environment across department and college lines. The Department and College have built excellent infrastructure to support scholarship, and laboratory facilities such as the Transportation Simulation Laboratory and GIS Laboratory are available for multi- and cross-disciplinary work.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely aligned discipline (must be completed at the time of hire).
