A postdoctoral position is available at Wayne State University (College of Engineering/School of Medicine) and Karmanos Cancer Institute (PIs: Neb Duric and Mohammad Mehrmohammadi). The research in our research lab is focused on design and development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic methodologies, algorithms, and instrumentation, in particular ultrasound and laser (i.e. photoacoustic) based techniques. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to two of our ongoing projects: design, development and optimization of (a) an advanced, clinically translatable, ultrasound and photoacoustic tomography for breast cancer imaging; (b) Ultrasound and Photoacoustic Imaging for Maternal and Fetal Care. These projects will be performed in close collaboration with Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State School of Medicine (Perinatology Research Branch). The activities include design and implementation of imaging hardware (system level design), data acquisition, development of advanced image formation and image processing algorithms, conducting experiments (ranging from tissue mimicking phantoms to in vivo animal models), data processing and analysis, and writing manuscripts and reports. Experience with tomographic reconstruction algorithms would be highly desriable.

Minimum required qualifications:
1- A PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Physics, Computer Science or a relevant field.
2- Strong experience in experimental biomedical ultrasound, acoustic, or optical imaging are preferred.
3- Experience with image reconstruction algorithms and associated coding.
4- A strong background in design and development of biomedical instrumentation (including data acquisition and signal processing) is a key requirement for this position.
5- Applicants must have expertise in engineering programming languages such as MATLAB, C++ and Python.
6- Background in clinical work is a plus.
7- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
8- Proven academic track record of publications in areas related to this research program.
