Position is based in the Center for Additive Manufacturing and is under the direction of the Center's Director and leadership team. This position manages, plans, and coordinates activities associated with the Center for Additive Manufacturing. This includes maintenance and upkeep on the equipment (including printers, laser cutters, and wash stations) as well as coordinating use of the associated equipment. This person is also responsible for tracking the center budget. This person is the point of contact for the Center and its space in the ISE building. It is also an expectation that the Engineer develop an outreach program to users at SLU and the greater St. Louis community and coordinate both printing services and any education programs that are part of the Center.
Works with users to create CAD and STL files needed for desired part.
Upkeep, maintenance and running of equipment in facility including (but not limited to) 3D printers, wash station, and laser cutters.
Supervises student workers.
Working with Center leadership team, develops pricing structure and outreach plan to Saint Louis University and St. Louis community.
Working with Center leadership team, develops Education plan for facility that could include certificate program and other training programs.
Coordinates logistical matters involved with moving Center to the ISE building.
Communicates with Center users on billing processes, job requests, etc.
Collaborates with facilities management on issues relating to the monitoring and maintenance of complex building automation and management systems for security, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and utilities.
Serves as Center representative and coordinator for additional University and external services, including service contracts on specialized equipment, renovation requests, event preparations, and budget prioritization.
Works with Center leadership team on maintenance and upkeep of instrumentation and equipment.
Establishes and maintains Center access and safety protocol.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in developing complex CAD files, including experience in 3D Printing software such as GrabCAD
Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles behind 3D printing materials
At least three years experience using equipment and instrumentation common in a science/engineering facility especially 3D printers, wash stations, and laser cutters
Knowledge of safety and security procedures as they relate to a science/engineering lab
Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team, working with units across a variety of science and engineering departments
Ability to supervise student workers
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Master's degree required in appropriate science or engineering discipline, Ph.D. preferred; supplemented with a minimum of three (3) years experience with CAD, 3D printing, and other additive manufacturing equipment, as well as strong communication skills to interface with external users.
