The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California - Davis plans to search for three new faculty in AY 23-24 in the areas of (i) Environmental Engineering - Water, (ii) Water Resources Engineering - Planning and Management, and (iii) a Professor of Teaching. (i) Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering - Water

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position in environmental engineering at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a significant independent research program as well as pursue synergistic collaborative research in environmental engineering related to the resiliency of water systems across multiple hazards, which can include drought, population growth, wildfires, power supply disruptions, social inequities, and climate change. Research themes of special interest include, but are not limited to: water treatment and distribution; wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal; and water recycling and reuse.

(ii) Assistant Professor in Water Resources Engineering - Planning and Management

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis, invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position in water resources engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a significant independent research program to advance systems engineering methods for water resources planning and management. The candidate will also contribute to collaborative efforts of the faculty and seek opportunities to support science-based policy in the water area. Research themes of special interest include, but are not limited to: integrated surface and groundwater management, water transfers and markets, optimization and risk, remote sensing of water resources, ecosystem restoration, and water infrastructure resilience and sustainability in a changing climate.

(iii) Assistant Professor of Teaching

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of California, Davis, invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Professor of Teaching. This position is as an Academic Senate faculty member eligible for promotion to “Security of Employment,” which is analogous to tenure.

The successful candidate is expected to have the potential to excel in teaching as demonstrated by their teaching experience (instructor or teaching assistant), professional development history, or other teaching-focused activities/interests. They will be expected to develop and implement innovative, effective, and inclusive pedagogical practices both within and outside of the classroom. Efforts to include groups who are underrepresented or come from historically marginalized communities are especially valued. The candidate must have the interest and ability to collaborate and contribute significantly to undergraduate teaching and mentoring missions of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). They will be expected to share effective teaching practices with other department faculty.

We are looking for a candidate who has strengths in the fundamentals of civil and environmental engineering (including ability to teach Statics and Mechanics of Materials courses) and who is enthusiastic to develop and bring innovative pedagogical practices and educational frameworks into these and other courses. Potential additional strengths include the ability to teach Probability and Statistics, Numerical Methods for Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, and other civil engineering courses. While teaching potential is a major consideration, candidates will also be expected to demonstrate potential for professional and scholarly achievement and activities, university and public service, and inclusive excellence. Scholarship may focus in, but is not limited to, the areas of engineering education, scholarship of teaching, program assessment, and integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into civil engineering curriculum.
