Project title
OXYGEN CARRIER PARTICLES AND CHEMICAL KINETICS CHARACTERIZATION FOR CHEMICAL LOOPING COMBUSTION

Abstract
Oxygen carrier (OC) particles and the resulting kinetics from their interaction with fuel and air streams are the central topics in chemical looping combustion (CLC) technological development -. The capacity of an oxygen particle to properly react with air and fuel streams is of fundamental importance to circumvent the contact of fuel and air in a CLC reactor, which allows the intrinsic CO2 capture. Recent studies - indicate that OC particles are a consumable and, therefore, should be preferentially achieved in the near market to the CLC installations. Nevertheless, chemical kinetics and OC performance are strongly dependent on particle structure, geometry, and composition, as well as on gas composition and operating conditions (temperature and pressure) -. Following these premises, OC particles and chemical kinetics characterization are of fundamental importance to allow the proper understanding of the entire CLC working. In this sense, this work has the objective to perform both characterizations in terms of experimental analysis with the selected OC particles in the research project "Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) and Oxy-fuel combustion with NG and Biogas".
Particularly, the present scholarship proposal is strictly connected with Work Fronts 2-4 of the Work stream A of the previously mentioned research project. The connection with WFs 3 and 4 is straightforward, while the contribution of the present study contributes with WF2 occurs in terms of the analysis of the influence of specific temperature measurement techniques by means of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
The candidate will collaborate with researchers from the project 67 "Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) and Oxy-fuel combustion with NG and Biogas" of the FAPESP-Shell Research Centre for Gas Innovation of POLI-USP at the University of São Paulo. Description
The applicant will contribute in line with the main objectives of the project:
1. Chemical kinetics analysis following TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis)
2. Investigation of OC particles for flexible gaseous fuel CLC
3. Investigation of the usage of biomass based fuels in CLC

Requirements to fill the position
This project would be well-suited to a highly motivated candidate requiring experience in:
- Characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, XPS, and XAFS).
- Kinetic and mechanistic studies.
- Experience in higher pressure and on the set-up experimental apparatus.
- Analytical techniques (TGA, PTGA, TPO, TPR, etc.).
- The postdoc candidate should hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, Material Sciences, or Chemistry. The candidate must have a maximum of five years after concluding the PhD and should have experience outside Brazil working in research centers.

INFORMATION ABOUT FELLOWSHIP:
This Postdoc fellowship is funded by FUSP. The fellowship will cover a standard maintenance stipend of R$ 7.373,10 per month.
