The College of Engineering at Michigan Technological University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Chair of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department to begin July 1, 2022. The Chair will lead the Electrical & Computer Engineering faculty in their mission of excellence in education, research, and service. We seek a forward-looking individual with the vision and experience to elevate the department’s prominence in research within the fields of electrical, computer, and robotics engineering, and to further our strong tradition of educational excellence. Our ideal candidate will be skilled at translating new and exciting research discoveries into the effective growth of our graduate and undergraduate programs.

The Chair is the chief administrative officer of the department and is responsible for the department’s administration, hiring, promotion and budget as well as being the leader in continuously improving the culture of inclusion and excellence in teaching and research. The Chair serves as the primary liaison between the department and the rest of the University and external constituents, and is expected to foster collaborations both internal and external to the university that advance the department’s mission.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 669 undergraduate students, 117 graduate students, 23 faculty, and 10 support staff, with aggressive goals for growth in coming years. The department has active research programs in image and signal processing, remote sensing, robotics, communications and sensor networks, electric energy systems, and electrophysics. Electrical & Computer Engineering is one of nine departments in the College of Engineering, which comprises over 4,100 of Michigan Tech’s total enrollment of approximately 7,000 STEM-focused students.
