Assistant Professor, Tenure-track, Bioengineering
University of Washington
The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington invites applications for a full time, tenure-track assistant professor position with an anticipated start date of September 2023. Assistant professors (tenure-track) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
UW Bioengineering is jointly administered by the School of Medicine and the College of Engineering. We are committed to being a global leader in inclusive, equitable, and just biomedical research, teaching, and service. This call for applications builds on that strength. The successful candidate will be expected to continue this just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive leadership tradition through their research, teaching and service.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an inclusive, high-quality, and innovative federally funded research program of national repute, provide the same inclusive, high-quality, and innovative approach to their undergraduate and graduate instruction, promote the success of students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in academia, and contribute to the goals and missions of the department, college, and university. They will be expected to follow UW’s strong tradition of collaboration and translation across disciplinary boundaries.
Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, experience in inclusive biomedical research, teaching, and/or service and experience in mechanisms, impact, prevention/intervention, and/or resilience-strengthening affecting under-represented minorities and/or people of color.
In Bioengineering, we are bound by a belief that diversity, health innovation, and social justice are inseparable. Each requires the other. Thus, we encourage applications from individuals whose experience aligns with the department’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute positively to these efforts. We encourage applications from people who have been traditionally minoritized, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
