Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Professor and Department Head of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The Department is looking for a leader with a vision to lead the department through continued growth in student enrollment, educational curriculum, engineering outreach, research expenditures, and national prominence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the administrative leader of the department, the selected candidate will be entrusted with managing all business and educational aspects, shaping the future direction of the department, and fostering its growth in terms of student populations and research and development fund generation. Collaboration with all departmental stakeholders will be essential to advance our department to new heights of national prominence. The role also entails maintaining a high level of professional activity, befitting a leader in engineering higher education, and working diligently to secure donations and other avenues for departmental advancement. Additionally, the Department Head will play a pivotal role in leading faculty towards increased scholarly activities, overseeing the recruitment of new faculty and staff, and spearheading efforts related to accreditation. The ideal candidate for this position should hold a B.S. in Engineering and possess a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. They should be a recognized leader in the field of civil engineering or a closely aligned discipline, showcasing a strong record of accomplishments. Ideally, the candidate should be a licensed professional engineer or willing to pursue licensure in Louisiana, demonstrating their commitment to professional excellence.

A proven history of success in university education is essential, as is a substantial presence in engineering journals, highlighting their contributions to the academic and research community. The candidate should also have a documented history of engaging in research and development activities, showcasing their innovative approach to engineering challenges.

Experience with ABET and other accrediting activities is highly desirable, as the role may involve overseeing accreditation processes. Strong leadership skills are a must, along with a track record of guiding a unit towards new achievements. The candidate should have a clear vision for advancing the national reputation of the department, indicating a strategic mindset.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial, as effective communication is key in academia and leadership. Managing engineered systems and community engagement experience are valuable assets, reflecting practical knowledge and a commitment to real-world application of engineering principles. Strong interpersonal and human relations skills are vital for fostering a positive and inclusive educational environment.

Moreover, organizational, and analytical skills are necessary for efficiently managing an engineering department. Finally, candidates must be committed to diversity and inclusivity, demonstrating their dedication to creating a diverse educational environment through their research, teaching, and service activities.
