Our system engineering department:
The Systems Engineering Department at ÉTS offers multidisciplinary study programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels that are tailored to the industrial needs regarding the optimization of operations and services, organization work, digital transformation, computerization of production systems and industrial automatization. Courses are focused on integrating computer and technological systems using mechanics, electronics and control, computer science and industrial engineering.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The department is recruiting a professor of intelligent systems engineering. The desired person must have general knowledge of systems engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science related to artificial intelligence.
Your expertise should be oriented towards one or more of the following fields of research:
- Machine Learning;
- Deep Neural Networks;
- Vision-Language Models
- Natural Language Processing;
- Multimodal Large Language Models
- Data Science;
- Reinforcement Learning;
- Intelligent and Autonomous Systems;
- Computer Vision;
- Signal Processing;
- Pattern Recognition.
You must demonstrate strong expertise in developing large language models (LLM), vision-language models (VLM), multimodal learning, and deep transformer models.
You could join the Laboratoire d’imagerie, de vision et d’intelligence artificielle (LIVIA) depending on your expertise and research interests. Its mission is to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence techniques to solve complex problems related to medical imaging, document analysis, biometrics, affective computing, health, video analysis, etc.
Job Description:
As part of the research team, selected candidates will:
- Teach and develop courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in fields related to systems engineering, electrical engineering and computer science;
- Mentor graduate students;
- Carry out funded, potentially interdisciplinary research projects with local, national and international partners;
- Develop a research program;
- Publish scientific articles;
- Complete grant applications, particularly those for NSERC, FQRNT, and MITACS.
Requirements
- Hold or be about to obtain a Doctorate (PhD) in Engineering in a relevant field for this position;
- Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or be eligible to join the OIQ and undertake the necessary steps to become a member before submitting an application for full professorship;
- Have experience in conducting research in collaboration with industry or solid experience in industrial R&D;
- Demonstrate excellent skills related to training highly qualified personnel through research projects and teaching;
- Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ÉTS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and register for a French program with the support of ÉTS.

Notre département de génie des systèmes :
Le département de génie des systèmes offre des programmes d’études multidisciplinaires qui répondent aux besoins des entreprises en matière d’optimisation des opérations et des services, de l’organisation du travail, de la transformation numérique, de l’informatisation des systèmes de production et de l’automatisation industrielle. L’orientation des cours repose sur une formation en intégration de systèmes informatiques et technologiques faisant appel à la mécanique, l’électronique et la commande, l’informatique et le génie industriel.
Fonctions du poste :
Le département recrute une professeure ou un professeur en génie des systèmes intelligents. La personne recherchée doit posséder des connaissances générales dans le domaine du génie des systèmes, du génie électrique, et à l’informatique en lien avec l’intelligence artificielle.
Votre expertise devrait être orientée vers un ou plusieurs des champs de recherche suivants :
- Apprentissage machine;
- Réseaux de neurones profonds;
- Traitement du langage naturel;
- Science de la donnée;
- Apprentissage par renforcement;
- Systèmes intelligents et autonomes;
- Vision par ordinateur;
- Traitement du signal;
- Reconnaissance de forms.
Vous devrez démontrer des aptitudes et compétences avancées dans modèles linguistiques de grande taille (LLM), modèles vision-langage (VLM), et modèles fondation, l’apprentissage multimodale, ainsi que les modèles profonds transformeurs qui sont à la base des plusieurs LLM.
Selon votre expertise et vos intérêts en recherche, vous pourriez vous joindre à l’équipe du Laboratoire d’imagerie, de vision et d’intelligence artificielle (LIVIA), dont la mission est de développer des techniques de pointe en intelligence artificielle pour résoudre des problèmes complexes reliés à l’imagerie médicale, l’analyse de documents, la biométrie, l’informatique affective, la santé, l’analyse vidéo, etc.
Description du poste
Au sein d’une équipe de recherche dynamique, vous aurez à :
- Enseigner aux trois cycles universitaires dans les domaines reliés au génie des systèmes, au génie électrique, et à l’informatique;
- Encadrer des étudiantes et étudiants aux cycles supérieurs;
- Développer des programmes de recherche;
- Effectuer des demandes de financement et de subventions, notamment à des organismes gouvernementaux québécois, canadiens ou internationaux, à des industriels, des municipalités, à des fondations;
- Réaliser des projets de recherche subventionnés ou contractuels avec l’industrie et les milieux de travail;
- Communiquer les développements et les résultats de vos recherches scientifiques ainsi que leurs impacts.
Exigences
- Être titulaire d’un doctorat (Ph.D.) en génie dans un domaine pertinent;
- Être membre de l’Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) ou y être éligible et prendre les mesures nécessaires afin de le devenir avant le dépôt du dossier de permanence;
- Posséder une expérience de recherche en collaboration avec l’industrie ou une solide expérience industrielle en R&D;
- Démontrer d’excellentes aptitudes pour la formation de personnel hautement qualifié à travers les projets de recherche et l’enseignement;
- Maîtriser le français parlé et écrit conformément à la Politique linguistique de l’ÉTS ou démontrer une volonté d’apprendre la langue française et s’engager dans un processus de francisation supporté par l’ÉTS.

Ce poste mène à la permanence. L’obtention de la permanence, l’échelle de traitement salarial 2024-2025 et les avantages sociaux sont déterminés selon les normes de la convention collective de l’Association des professeurs de l’ÉTS (APÉTS) en vigueur.
