Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Summary/Duties:

The Mechanical Engineering Department at The University of Memphis (UofM) invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, depending on qualifications of applicants, starting August 2024.  The positions will undertake research and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in all areas related to metal additive manufacturing.

Qualifications: 

Assistant Professor - A Ph.D. degree in Mechanical engineering, or a closely related field by the expected start date.  Advanced ABDs will be considered, but doctoral degree must be earned by the start date of the position. 

Associate Professor - A Ph.D. degree in Mechanical engineering, or a closely related field with at least 42 months of experience in as an independent researcher and or instructor in the Mechanical or closely related discipline.  

Professor - A Ph.D. degree in Mechanical engineering, or a closely related field with at least 10 years of experience in research and or instruction in the Mechanical or closely related discipline.

Memphis is home to three Fortune 500 companies (FedEx, International Paper, and AutoZone) and has a strong presence in health, biomedical devices, transportation, automotive, aero-propulsion and entertainment industries. The Department and Herff College of Engineering have many partnerships with these and other local industries for both research and education applications.

The University of Memphis is the largest public university and engineering program in western Tennessee with an enrollment of about 22,000 students and is as one of two flagship Carnegie R1 public institutions in the State of Tennessee. The Herff College of Engineering at The University of Memphis is nationally ranked in both its undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department currently has 14 faculty positions and an enrollment of about 350 students pursuing B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.  A state-of-the-art Metal Additive Manufacturing Laboratory (MAML) was established at UofM in 2018 housing two powder bed fusion printers, in addition to characterization and post-process equipment.  Information about MAML can be found at https://www.memphis.edu/mamlab/facility/index.php.
