The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with appointment to begin in Fall 2023. Required qualifications include (1) A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment. Candidates with expertise in all areas of mechanical engineering are encouraged to apply. Candidates with research and teaching interests that support and expand department strengths in robotics, mechatronics, and control theory are of particular interest. Candidates are expected to develop original and independent research efforts and to collaborate with current faculty in the department/university. Other required qualifications include (2) Ability to develop a cutting edge externally funded research program; (3) Ability to teach courses in the discipline at the graduate and undergraduate level; and (4) Ability to support student academic success by engaging and encouraging students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
New Mexico Tech, located in the central Rio Grande valley community of Socorro, specializes in science and engineering education and research and has an enrollment of approximately 1700 undergraduate and graduate students. NMT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is a leading department on campus, with strengths across the sub-disciplines of Control/Robotics/Mechatronics, Explosives/Energetic Materials, High-Strain Rate Mechanics/Extreme Dynamics, Solid/Fluid/Thermal Sciences, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. In addition to 12 tenured/tenure-track faculty, many researchers on nearby national labs (e.g., Sandia National Lab, Los Alamos National Lab, etc.) are adjunct faculty in the department. Students at all levels ranging from BS to PhD participate in research.
