About us: The Global College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, formerly known as the UM-SJTU Joint Institute (JI), was founded in 2006, following a strategic partnership between the University of Michigan (UM) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The goal is to develop the College into a world-class institution for engineering education. The College is recognized as an exemplar of Sino-Foreign collaboration in higher education. In 2014, the institute received the prestigious Andrew Heiskell Award for “Innovation in International Education” from the Institute of International Education (IIE). The Global College currently offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), and Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), all in keeping with UM curriculum objectives. All course instruction is in English.
