A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Treena Livingston Arinzeh, who is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and the Director of the Tissue Engineering and Applied Biomaterials Laboratory. The postdoc position is for an initial one-year appointment, but has the potential to be renewed for an additional year. NJIT is located in Newark, NJ, which is the New York metropolitan area.
Dr. Arinzeh’s laboratory focuses on regenerative medicine strategies to rebuild tissues for a variety of clinical applications (biomedical.njit.edu/people/arinzeh.php). Strategies include the use of stem cells, other cell types and functional biomaterials as scaffolds to repair tissues. Clinical applications include bone and cartilage repair (osteoarthritis) and spinal cord repair. Her laboratory also uses electrospinning and other processing techniques to fabricate biomaterials/scaffolds. Current funding comes from federal, state and private agencies.
General Responsibilities: (1) Develop, characterize and process biomaterials. Perform cell culture studies and biological assays. Perform and collaborate with other institutions for in vivo work. (2) Prepare reports and manuscripts. Present findings at national/international conferences. Assist in writing grant proposals and technical reports. (3) Mentor undergraduates and other graduate students on similar projects. (4) Help develop new research areas.
Minimum qualification: Applicant must have a PhD or equivalent in biomedical engineering or related area. Candidate must have prior experience with biomaterials fabrication and characterization, cell culture, biological assays and other methods (ELISA, immunostaining, RT-PCR), microscopy. Prior in vivo experience is also preferred.
