The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Science and Engineering at Saint Louis University (SLU) seeks dynamic, collegial, collaborative, and creative applicants for a tenure-track position. Applicants should be interested in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and developing a sponsored research program. Faculty appointments are targeted for the assistant professor level; however, candidates with exceptional qualifications will be considered for appointments at a higher level, including those with tenure.

The Department welcomes qualified candidates in all research areas of Biomedical Engineering. The position is defined broadly across the entire scope of Biomedical Engineering, but candidates in the following areas of research are highly encouraged to apply – Medical Imaging
Medical Devices and Sensors, Artificial Intelligence, 3D Printing in Medicine, and Surgical Robotics.


*Generating sponsored research – expectations include significant effort towards developing and maintaining an externally funded research program involving both undergraduate and graduate students and publishing quality research in peer-reviewed journals. Startup packages are available for qualified candidates, as are mentoring for proposal and collaborator development.
*Teaching – all faculty in the Department are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; the load will be scaled according to external research funding, with an emphasis on providing time for new faculty to develop their research. Assistance in developing coursework will be provided by the Department.
*Student mentoring – Saint Louis University strives to educate the whole person, and as such active engagement in undergraduate and graduate student mentoring is an important component of faculty expectations.
*Participate in Departmental and School service – while tenure-track faculty are primarily expected to develop their teaching and research portfolios, minimum service expectations to the Department and School may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

*An earned Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or a closely related field
*Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching

Laboratory coursework and undergraduate research are hallmarks of the student experience at SLU. The School offers ABET accredited bachelor’s degree programs in Aerospace, Biomedical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, and AABI accredited bachelor’s degree programs in Flight Science and Aviation Management. M.S. and Ph.D. programs in engineering and aviation are also offered.

Covid 19/Booster Vaccination Requirement:

SLU requires COVID-19 vaccinations and a booster dose for all students, staff, and faculty who are physically present on our St. Louis campuses. As a prospective and/or a new employee at SLU, you will be/are required to comply with the University’s vaccination protocol. Proof of full vaccination is required before the start of employment in order to work at SLU. If you are not vaccinated, you are required to begin the vaccination process at the time of your first day of employment and submit proof of full vaccination within 30 days of your start date. Exemptions may be granted on the grounds of religious beliefs or medical circumstances. Failure to comply with the vaccine requirement within 30 days of an employee’s start date will result in termination of the employment. Proof of vaccine will be submitted through an online portal made available to you during your Workday onboarding tasks. The University will require all students, faculty and staff to obtain a booster vaccine dose prior to their start date. This applies to all adults over the age of 18 years who completed their vaccine series with Pfizer or Moderna at least 6 months ago and those who received the J&J vaccine at least two months ago.
